What is EMDR?

EMDR is a powerful evidence-based therapy modality that helps people heal from painful experiences and process lingering effects of trauma. Sometimes our brains hold on to difficult memories in way that keeps us feeling “stuck”, which can lead to anxiety, negative beliefs about ourselves, or cause unwanted intense emotional reactions. Through bilateral brain stimulation, EMDR helps your brain reprocess those memories so they no longer feel as overwhelming. This is done through guided sets of eye movements, gentle taps, or rhythmic vibrations while focusing on parts of the memory. Overtime the memory remains, but the distress connected to it softens and your brain begins to see it in a healthier, more balanced way.

Why Try EMDR?

  • For some people it works more quickly than traditional talk therapy.

  • It can help with trauma, anxiety, negative core-beliefs, phobias, and even everyday distress.

  • You don’t have to go into detail about every painful event. You’re always in control of the process.

  • It can help you get to the root of the issues you’re exploring in therapy rather than focusing on managing the symptoms.
